The Xia Zhu Lake Garden Exposition in Deqing is a unique project consisting in a set of exhibition stands and reception halls set up in the midst of nature, in the heart of the mountainous landscapes of Dengqing region.
The project is located in the city of Dengqing, in Zhejiang Province and was commissioned as an entry to the international tender for the Xia Zhu Lake Garden Exposition, initially to be hosted by the city of Dengqing. This unique exhibition showcases rural culture, promoting the richness of a lifestyle reconnected with nature. It is a space of demonstration and experimentation.
The project is designed for a large inflow of visitors including the services required for its proper management. It is conceived to anticipate alternative uses after the end of the exhibition in terms of versatility of facilities for reconversion to Eco-tourism (hotels, restaurants, conference centres). The actual needs of operation and development are taken into account both for the exhibition and following its closure, in terms of functional division, traffic flow management and architectural design, while promoting sustainable development centred around ecological, social and economic objectives.
Within the inner exhibition area, a series of four exhibition stands are set up in harmony with the mountain ridge, highlighting its outline. The project reinterprets the design of traditional local dwellings as a dialogue with the mountains in the background. The main entrance to the park uses the reflected horizon of the campus as vanishing point and creates several functional spaces on a stone-paved esplanade arranged as a square pattern on the ground. Deeply connected to nature, the project seeks to become a cultural resource centre of national impact, offering a unique experience that integrates art into the surrounding landscape.
