[Press] Architecturestudio signs the statement of the Syndicat de l’Architecture

Architecturestudio has signed the statement of the Syndicat de l’Architecture “For the inclusion of rehabilitation, as an architectural act of public interest, in the 1977 Architecture Law” because we believe that, in the face of the environmental challenges we are confronted with, sectoral regulatory approaches such as low carbon, renovation (thermal, heritage, or through building extensions, etc.) are not enough to drive the necessary, much deeper transformation of our ways of living and inhabiting, in connection with our real planetary limits.

In this perspective, the act of architectural creation in a building transformation project is necessarily of public interest on:

– The resource aspect: The transformation project allows us to reconsider our built artifacts as potential sources for future uses. Architectural diagnostics should be imposed and entrusted to the project architects, who advocate for an ethics of transformation.

– The social aspect: The transformation project must be much more inclusive by working upstream with past, present, or future residents and users. In this regard, the architectural diagnostic mission should integrate the expertise of the inhabitants, influence the definition of the programs, and raise awareness among future users about the issues of transformation.

– The economic aspect: The transformation project allows us to reposition our buildings, cities, and territories within a long-term logic, thus envisioning a “continuous project” where the architect is no longer involved at the end of the value-creation process, but where architectural expertise is present throughout the transformation process of inhabited environments, the multiple lives of buildings, and ecosystems.

So yes, to the inclusion of architectural creation in all processes of transforming our living environments.
