Studio

Architecturestudio, is an international architecture, urban planning and interior design firm founded in 1973. Its offices are located in Paris, Shanghai, Geneva and Abidjan. It is managed by 10 partners supported by a cosmopolitan team of 150 employees. It focuses on shared knowledge and dialogue to release the creative potential of a team approach.

Since 2024, architecturestudio has become a project driven firm with a mission:

“To collectively imagine the durability of inhabited environments through a renewed attention to the regions and a committed architecture.”

This materializes around 3 commitments:

Open and share, dialogue, with all the project team to develop social studies and contribute to the reformulation of lifestyles.

Collectively design, co-develop eco-responsible solutions in response to the ecological, economic and social challenges.

Inform and transmit, raise awareness and transmit the new methods within the firm, by acting accountably.

AS draws on its extensive expertise acquired through numerous projects to constantly renew its conceptual approach, in response to the specific challenges of each case study. Major references include the European Parliament, the Institut du Monde Arabe, the restructuring of the Jussieu Campus, the Maison de la Radio auditorium, the Bahrain National Theatre and the Jinan Cultural Center.

Each of these projects is an opportunity for the agency to question architectural practices in the light of major contemporary issues – be they sustainability, innovation or the transformation of uses. This reflection is constantly nourished by our projects, studies and active research.

As part of this dynamic, Architecturestudio has created the LAB AS Explore, a space dedicated to the research and development of new tools for collective design, particularly around digital tools and artificial intelligence. The aim of this laboratory is to enrich the design process, while supporting the development of the skills of the agency’s architects.

Keen to share its knowledge and know-how, the agency is also committed to transmission and openness to dialogue. To this end, it organizes the Mercredis d’AS, monthly conferences open to all, welcoming outside speakers to Paris to discuss their practices and exchange views on the architecture of today and tomorrow.

AS bases its understanding of urban and architectural intervention contexts on a multidimensional approach developed with its partners, taking into account environmental, societal, and economic factors, as well as mobility, functional, programmatic, technical, regulatory, cultural, and artistic considerations.

Position AS follows an open and collegial design process, whose choices reflect a responsible stance and whose integration of multidisciplinary expertise upstream underpins the relevance of shared solutions—beyond its own discipline.

Role AS measures the role of architecture by its ability to design new places that reinvent our collective and individual experiences, increase the quality of use and possibilities for interaction, and materialize the future spaces driven by tomorrow’s innovation.

Creativity AS aims to stimulate architectural creativity within the company through an approach that is open to discussion and the exploration of unexpected and bold solutions, the development of which requires experimentation with a constant focus on quality of execution.

Method AS is identified by a codified collective design method, whose rigorous production process and multiple modes of representation (analyses, drawings, views, models) serve the exercise of iterative and precise creative work that promotes efficiency and inventiveness. Within this framework, the conceptual approach to projects proposes effective strategies that reveal the intelligence and potential of each context.

Signature AS signs all projects. It is the collective’s signature.

Place of exchange AS is a place for open debate that respects and encourages freedom of expression for all. The collective’s various places and times for exchange, as well as the communication tools developed in its agencies, promote transparency and horizontality, and the circulation of information, as prerequisites for the group’s functioning.

Co-constructed AS produces a wealth of urban and architectural content on a daily basis, using a variety of media, including text, graphics, and buildings. It is the quality of the internal debate that they enable that gives rise to the relevance of each co-constructed project.

Collaborative AS aims to inspire emulation within the group through the quality of the collaborative work in which everyone participates. It maintains a dialectical environment where trust is mutual, decisions are shared, initiatives come together, experiences are passed on, and a collaborative work culture is built.

Multitude AS encourages a multitude of educational backgrounds, geographical origins, and personal qualities within its agencies; this resulting diversity is one of the factors that enriches the group, stimulating personal and professional development.

Developments AS encourages architects and urban planners to follow projects from the initial sketch to the construction site, supported by the appropriate human and material resources within the project teams. Professional training is also encouraged and structured according to the desired personal development.

Openness AS is an evolving group which, through its collaborative approach, continually seeks to integrate new talented profiles: with broad skills, committed urban and architectural approaches, and a desire to participate in the agency’s future developments.

Horizontal AS is managed collegially by its partners. In accordance with this horizontal management style, all partners receive the same salary.

3.5 AS applies a salary policy that defines a coefficient of 3.5 between the lowest and highest salaries.

2/3 AS systematically reserves two-thirds of its profits to consolidate its investment capacity, which is defined by the partners based on results.

Agencies AS organizes its agencies to reflect its operating and thinking methods, where a diversity of skills overlap in an open and flexible space. AS designs its premises to best meet the needs and comfort of its employees and to promote new communication and collaborative work tools.

Reviews For each phase of a study, AS holds a weekly, mandatory “project review” meeting, organized as a group session, with the aim of assessing the acceptance of the studies by the board of partners and guiding and/or clarifying the key points.

Supports AS has common supports defining the procedures used and codifying the methods and optimization of workflows enabled by digital transformations. AS ensures their development by expert groups, their updating through methodological and technological monitoring, and their horizontal transmission through internal online sharing.

Commitments AS establishes a clear division of tasks and responsibilities with its external partners, ensuring transparency in the execution of these tasks and respect for mutual commitments. As an agent, AS undertakes to act as the study coordinator and to manage the technical interfaces for subsequent exchanges.

Sustainable AS applies its expertise to any project that combines public and private development issues with improving our environment. To do so, it bases its approach on sustainable development values applied at all levels of design. AS achieves its objectives by seeking flexibility in the use of the programs studied, high standards in terms of the energy performance of the proposed building envelopes, and resilience and reversibility over the long life cycle of the buildings delivered.

Innovation Architecturestudio has created LAB AS Explore, a space dedicated to the research and development of new collective design tools, particularly in the areas of digital tools and artificial intelligence. This laboratory aims to enrich the design process while supporting the development of the agency’s architects’ skills.

Mercredi d’as Keen to share its knowledge and expertise, the agency is also committed to passing on its skills and engaging in dialogue. It organizes Mercredis d’AS, monthly conferences open to all, welcoming external speakers to Paris to discuss their practice and exchange views on the architecture of today and tomorrow.

Model AS must be a model for the community, clients, and external partners through its actions and those of its partners and employees. These members refrain from any conflict of interest with a company, service provider, or project owner, in favor of friendly professional relationships.

  • Mars 76 - Martin Robain, co-founder of Mars 76, a movement that sought to promote the participation of residents in the development of their living environment, 1976

Since its creation in 1973, Architecturestudio has been conceived as a laboratory for social and cultural innovation. The agency believes that cross-disciplinary approaches are the best way to grasp the multiplicity of the world in the 21st century. This vision crystallized with the creation of an R&D center, LAB AS Explore, a space dedicated to the research and development of new collective design tools, particularly in the areas of digital tools and artificial intelligence. This laboratory aims to enrich the design process while supporting the development of the agency’s architects’ skills. With this in mind, AS is committed to scientific research by welcoming two PhD students, architectural researchers on CIFRE contracts.
