The development of the port of Pointe-des- Galets is an ambitious project for the port city. It is the reconquest of the wastelands and above all it is the natural reopening of the city on the Indian Ocean.
The development of the Port of Pointe-des-Galets is an ambitious project for the port city. It is the reconquest of the wastelands and above all it is the natural reopening of the city on the Indian Ocean.
The opening of the city and its port to the rest of the island gives it back the unifying role that it played at the end of the 19th Century. The urban and social fabric is called to change. It is therefore necessary to provide it with the physical and symbolic supports capable of signifying, stimulating and organizing this transformation. The starting site has a discontinuous peripheral character which presents great land and urban opportunities. The proximity to the center and the exceptional view of the port promise a prosperous economic future. The project is working onrequalification and includes service and leisure programs, economic and cultural centers, as well as housing. A lively and attractive interface, the Western Port contributes to enhancing the image of the port and the city.
